About SOTA

What is SOTA?

Student Occupational Therapy Association, an organization within the School of Occupational Therapy at TWU-Denton, created to encourage leadership, professional development and giving back to the community.  

Why join SOTA?

SOTA offers its members, a multitude of opportunities to implement and build on their current knowledge of occupational therapy while spreading awareness of occupational therapy throughout the community. SOTA offers students opportunities to network with professionals, get involved in the community through service, learn and grow within the OT profession, develop leadership skills, and create lifelong bonds with OTDs.

How do i join SOTA?

Bring a completed membership form (link below) and membership dues to the next general meeting. Or email jbandelaria@twu.edu for more info.

How much does SOTA Cost?

The membership dues are $15 a semester or $20 for the year for OTD students.

Does it pay to be an active member?

Being an active member in SOTA is your first opportunity to practice what it is like to be an OT in the community by helping others, advocating, learning, and growing. OTD students who achieve Active Membership will have the opportunity to receive more funds to cover AOTA conference fee from fundraising pool.

What does it mean to be an active member?

Throughout the semester, attend at least:

  • 1 general meeting

  • 1 community service event

  • 1 fundraising/social event

  • 1 professional development event

  • 1 additional event from any category

A Little Bit of History...

The National Society for the Promotion of Occupational Therapy (NSPOT) began in 1917.

 

Name changed to the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) in 1921.

TWU's Occupational Therapy program is celebrating 75 years!

TWU OT program began in 1943.

Occupational Therapy was founded in 1917.

Fanny B. Vanderkooi was the first program director of Occupational Therapy at TWU.
